50th Post and a Meme to Boot

I was a bit taken back when I was meme'd by Melissa Olson. Generally I like to fly under the radar leave a few comments, do a post or two and vanish into the night. I leave the heavy blogging to Dan the Running Man. So to come up with 5 things, that you did not know about me......hum, I needed to give this some heavy duty thought.

Here goes:

 1) I met the man of my dreams when I was 17, on a blind date no less. My sister fixed us up. We have been together ever since, and there is no one I would rather share my life with. It has been almost 30 years now. My sister also fixed up another couple on the same day; they also have been married many years.  So, never let my sister fix you up!

2) I love to read! I will read just about anything. And many times I will be reading two or three books at once. When I have nothing new to read I will re-read old books.  When I find an author I like I will read everything they have ever written. My youngest son is always amazed when I can remember the plot from a novel that I read in elementary school. I have books all over the house and one whole wall in my office is filled with books.

books

3) Even through I love to read I cannot spell! Never could. Had one teacher in 5th grade try and teach me, but she gave up. I hated the saying "Just look in up in the dictionary", because I could never get anyone to understand that I could not just look it up for I didn't even know what letter the word began with! I spent many nights in school going through the whole dictionary looking up words. I think spell check is the world's greatest invention.

4) I'm a picky eater and eat very little. There are very few vegetables that I will eat. I am a meat and potatoes kind of gal. I'm a junk food queen.  I have been known at restaurants to order dessert for my meal. For if I order a meal I will be too full for dessert! My motto is I eat to live, not live to eat!

5) I'm a strong believer in public service and giving back to your community. My family was always involved in community service, and I grew up with the notion that it was something everyone did. That you need to find something whether it's a local charity, town government, PTA, or your local church and become involved. However, you never do it for the recognition or the hopes of increasing your business, you do it in the hopes that you will leave this world a little better off than you found it.

I now meme the following Ray Saenz and Kelli Fronabarger and Suzi Gravenstuk.

Well, as my son used to say, as he opened his last Christmas present, Guess I'm done!

North Haven Connecticut Makes Money Magazines Top 100 List

The Town of North Haven has made Money Magazine's Top 100 List of the best places to live in America for 2007, making the list at number 86. north haven

This year the magazine decided to concentrate on "small towns" across the country. North Haven stood out due to their strong economic development, large business base, proximity to the City of New Haven and the many local cultural events that are held throughout the year. The magazine didn't even touch upon our low taxes, excellence school system (with our brand new high school), town meeting form of government or our strong sense of community. But thats fine, because now, the whole country will know, what we locals have kept secret for years. North Haven is an exceptional community for you to live, work and raise your family.

North Haven

The other Connecticut towns that made the list are Rocky Hill #35, Somers #53, and Trumbull coming in at 68.

Just because you got your real estate license doesn’t mean you know how to sell real estate.

I know you're all excited you are now licensed to sell real estate. You have taken your classes and passed the state test. You have signed on with a real estate company, ordered you business cards, and convinced one of your friends that you are now a real estate professional and can find them their dream home.

But that doesn't mean you know what you are doing. When you are first starting out you need to find a company that has an excellent training program for new agents. A broker, who will always be there to answer questions, goes over paperwork before your client signs on the dotted line. Makes sure you are doing things correctly!  A company that shows you how to write a strong contract, how to protect your client, and things not to do that might get you into trouble. These are things they do not teach in school.

Spend a lot of time in the office.  You can learn quite of bit by just listening to the war stories of the experienced agents in the office. Ask questions! If you are not 100% sure of the answer, find someone who is and ask them. We expect you to ask questions. We were all new once, we understand.

Learn who you can trust. You are new and yes, some agents will try and take advantage of this and you should be aware of this fact. Not all agents are nice. Not all agents tell the truth, watch what you say and to whom.

And last but not least, spend a lot of time on Active Rain, where you can always find wonderful advice, answers to questions, funny stories and great friends

Fab-Forever-A Hit Last Night In North Haven-July 1, 2007

fab forever

Fab-Forever took to the stage last night in the North Haven summer concert series, and was a major hit with the over-flowing crowd.

the crowd

It was a beautiful night for a concert and the green was packed as Fab Forever played all the Beatles hits we know and love, such as "I wanna hold you hand" and "Eight Days A Week". They had the crowd on their feet and dancing when they preformed their rendition of "Twist and Shout". They finished up their performance with a moving rendition of "Stand by Me" which left the audience shouting for more.

If you have a chance to catch this group in your town, don't miss them.

The next North Haven Concert on the Green is Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 7:00 pm.

Rick Larrimore's Tribute to Rod Stewart will be performing
