North Haven Offering Adult Education Classes

                                                                                                                                                                                     

Once again the North Haven Adult Education is offering classes this fall. There is a wide variety of courses to choose from; everything from computer courses to belly dancing. They also offer GED preparation classes and English as a Second Language. Classes begin September 24, 2007 and the last day for mail in registration is September 15. The cost is very reasonable ranging from $5.00 to $90.00 for town residents (depending on the course). There is an additional $10.00 charge for non-residents. Course catalogs are available at the North Haven Public Library , or at North Haven Adult Education Office at the North Haven High School.

North Haven Fair

The 65th Annual North Haven Fair runs this year from September 6 - 9. There are plenty of activities for the whole family.

The children may enjoy:

  • The Petting Zoo
  • The Ronald McDonald Shows
  • Maybe an Elephant Ride

Of course, that is if you can take them away from the mid-way with the amusement rides and games of chance.  You can stroll through the exhibits such as the arts and craft, live stock, and home grown produce to see who won "Best in Show" this year. The competition is always fierce.

If all that walking has made you hungry, stop by one of the many food vendors. There are so many choices it will be difficult to decide what to have.  Fried Dough, Subs, Clam Chowder, Fries, Stuffed Bake Potatoes and Donuts are just some of the favorites.

Great entertainment is scheduled nightly. Here are the musical features:

  •    Thursday Night    :  Big Shot - a Billy Joel Tribue Band
  •    Friday  at  8 pm   :  John Caffery & The Beaver Brown Band with their hit "On the Dark Side"
  •    Saturday  9 pm   :  ACM nominated country singer Chris Cagle 
  •    Sunday at 5:30   :  Gin Blossoms wraps up the fair.   

Admission is $9.00, children under 12 are free. It is easy to get to off exit 12 off 91 and just follow the signs.

There where 19 homes that sold in North Haven, Connecticut in July 2007, the highest priced home sale was $548,000, the  home was an English Tudor with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, 2300 sq.ft. on less than an 1/2 acrea. The lowest priced sale was a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath cape with 884 sq. ft., which sold for $220,000. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Gets a Makeover

While we were in Maine for the weekend, we found that the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is undergoing major restorations which are scheduled to finish up this week. The historic lighthouse needed granite repositioned, mortar replaced, new stucco and it will receive a new coat of paint. This is first major restoration of the lighthouse since it was built in 1835. The original lighthouse was built in 1827, but had to be replaced in 1835 due to mortar erosion. The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is the lighthouse that appears on the Maine state quarter, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a wonderful view of the ocean and visitors can climb the staircase that leads to the lantern room. If you're planning to visit Maine, plan on making this one of your stops

Thimble Island - Branford - Its Worth the Trip

Nestled in the quaint Town of Branford are the Thimble Islands. There are a least 23 islands that are inhabited. The islands are made up of a series of rock formations formed by receding glaciers. The Thimble Islands have long been a play ground for the wealthy and in it's heyday it was known as the " Newport of Connecticut".
